Since
July 1995 Danni Ashe has run two closely linked websites
- www.danni.com (a free
website) and hotbox.danni.com (which is available only to
subscribers). In August 2000 Danni launched a third site,
www.mostdownloadedwoman.com, to celebrate her appointment
as 'Most Downloaded Woman' by the Guinness World Records.
For the purpose of this record, we've counted downloads
of images of Ms Ashe from these sites.
In order
to ascertain the total number of downloads of Danni Ashe
for the period July 1, 2000 through January 31, 2001, we
took a direct count from our log files, which we've been
archiving expressly for this purpose.
For
the period February 1996 through June 2000, in the absence
of a complete archive of log files, we used a statistical
sampling technique, similar to the methods devised by Gallup
and other political pollsters. We analyzed our log files
in detail over a 10-day period, June 1-10, and used these
findings to calculate the total number of downloads between
2/1/96 and 6/30/00 (we are unable to count downloads from
our sites prior to Feb '96).
The
methodology used here was devised for and verified by Guinness
World Records. We have had this methodology reviewed by
three independent companies (including a firm specializing
in Web statistics) and all have written public statements
declaring it to be fair and accurate.
Danni
Ashe images are regularly downloaded from many other areas
of the Internet, not under our control. If included, these
additional images would greatly increase our total, but
we are unable to count them directly so they are not considered
here. This is discussed further in Appendix
H.
Log
files for a website of our size are extremely large, totaling
approximately 1.2 GB a day, and this prevents us from presenting
them here. However, we are happy to offer them, or any of
our materials, for scrutiny should you so choose, via CD-ROM
or FTP.
July
1, 2000 - January 31, 2001
Since July 1, 2000, we've been archiving our log files so
that all of our downloads can be counted. For this period
we simply counted every download, of every image of Danni,
as recorded in our logs. See Appendix
A. Appendix

In order to ascertain the total number of downloads of Danni
Ashe, from www.mostdownloadedwoman.com, we took a direct
count of each Danni image downloaded from our analog reports.
The site went live on August 8, 2000. See Appendix

In the
following calculations, covering the period February 1996
through June 2000, we've employed the methodology developed
for and approved by Guinness World Records, which lead,
on August 17, 2000, to Danni Ashe being given Guinness World
Records' "Most Downloaded Woman" title. This calculation,
in combination with the downloads counted since that time,
are responsible for the grand total below.
June
1 - 10, 2000
We identified over 9000 unique images of Ms. Ashe on our
website. A partial list of the images is included in Appendix
I. We then analyzed our log files for the period of
June 1-10, 2000 and counted the total downloads of those
images within this 10-day period. In addition to counting
the number of times those images had been downloaded, we
also noted the total number of unique visitors (IP's) and
the total number of subscriptions purchased (signups). From
this information, we then calculated the average number
of Danni Ashe images downloaded per unique visitor. See

1998 - June 2000
For the period of May 1998 thru June 2000, we no longer
have our original log files (excluding June 1-10, 2000).
Due to the large size of our logs, saving them has been
unfeasible and so over the years we've created 'Analog'
summary reports to store important log file information.
The Analog reports present a subset of data taken from our
original log files. From these Analog reports, we've been
able to determine the total number of unique visitors (IP's)
for this time period.
February
1996 - April 1998
For the period of February 1996 thru April 1998, we no longer
have any original log files or analog reports. All this
information being lost when we changed hosts in April 1998.
However we do have detailed information about how many people
subscribed during this time and, with that information,
are able to determine the number of unique visitors by multiplying
the number of subscriptions sold by the average Visitors
per Signup (detailed below). To arrive at the Visitors per
Signup statistic, we looked at the relationship between
the number of subscriptions sold (signups) and the number
of unique visitors (IP's) for the period of May 1998 thru
June 2000. See Appendix
E (Free Site) and Appendix
F (Pay Site).
